No, it isn’t.
Fusion is always almost there! 
One of these days it may actually get there, which could be very exciting, unless the powers that be use it to destroy us all. But if they didn’t, imagine a world where energy is not a problem.
How long does it have to sustain? If they can keep repeating a 30 second burst with a similar delay surely that’s enough to boil a lot of salt compound → water. Maybe the ramp up time is very long with repairs in between or whatever?
Imagine if that 100M degree plasma got loose
It’s levitating in space, held there by magnetic fields
Whatever it touches is toast
Its an interesting, incremental step tho
